HSM Weekend Recap September 24th & 25th

28 09 2011

September 24th & 25th

Series: Week 5 of the Wipeout series. I taught on what it means to be addicted to anything besides God. Our Saturday night program had about the same amount of students as last week but Sunday morning was definitely more packed then the week before. We also had about 17 students choose to surrender to God this weekend! We loved this series and hope it carries over to our next one.

Worship: We had a student write something on confession (which I will post later) and had a lot of participation from the students during worship. They weren’t consumers this week. They chose to worship  God. Amazing Grace, One Thing Remains, How He Loves, Come Thou Fount

Fun: We played a game involving a banana and 4 students. It didn’t go over as well as planned. When we do games up front we need to make sure everyone can see what is going on.

Areas of Improvement: The GAME. If we are going to have an element of fun then we need to make sure it goes really well. Planning, participation, and excitement were all down this week. We’ll never do a game just to do a game, so when we do have an element of fun we need to make sure it is FUN! Continue to get more students involved on stage.

Next Week: Replay (Week 1) – What is regret?

HSM Weekend Recap- September 10th & 11th

13 09 2011

September 10th & 11th

Series: Week 3 of the Wipeout series. I taught on prayer on Saturday night and Sunday morning. We had 56 students there on Saturday night and we are expecting a lot moreover the next couple weekends as we will be announcing our Saturday night service in our adult services this weekend. Like I said, I taught on prayer this week and at the end of the message I let incense to create a visual of how are prayers rise up to God and how sweet they are to Him. After our first song we had 4 students come up and pray for 9/11, their schools, their friends, and our world.

Worship: The band sounded incredible again this week. We did two songs up front and two songs at the end this week. Look to You, Center, Awake my Soul, Desert Song.

Fun: TJ and Steve ran a quick trivia game. It only took 5 minutes and was extremely effective. We had four students on stage and each student had one staff member with them. Each student was asked one trivia question and if they got it right the adult staff got a whip cream pie in the face, but if they got it wrong the student got the pie in the face. Only one student lost and it was hilarious.

Areas of Improvement: We need to do a better job of getting our volunteer staff to sit with the students. We had less students this week than we had two weeks ago and the more we get our staff involved the more students will want to connect on a Sunday morning or Saturday night.

Next Week: Wipeout Week 4- Family Dynamics

Weekend Recap HSM-September 3rd & 4th

6 09 2011

I’ve done this in the past and I figured I’d start sharing on here:

September 3rd & 4th

Series: This was the second week of our “Wipeout” series. I love our bumper video and theme we have going for the next few weeks. Our Junior High apprentice, Doug Franklin, taught on eliminating busyness. He did a GREAT job explaining how to slow down and what hurry and busyness keeps us from. The students were really connected and engaged as he spoke and it was cool to have someone up there that a lot of students remember from their time in JHM. We didn’t teach on Saturday night for the kickoff of Saturday night service because we wanted to have a night of prayer for our JHM/HSM students that showed up. Great way to start a new gathering.

Worship: The band did a really good job and Kevin wasn’t even on stage this week. Chris Curtis led and Tyler did a great job leading through him. It’s cool to see more and more people step up on the worship team.

Fun: We busted out the old blender once again and decided to go with items that reminded of us wiping out. We had four students come up and drink some crazy concoction that  consisted of Code Red Mountain Dew, Cheese Doritos, Bumble Bee Tuna, A1 Steak Sauce, and Monster Energy Drink. Four students volunteered to try and beat Big Steve Sanderson and the Junior rep one. The game provided a ton of energy and momentum heading into worship and worked out better than a game like that usually does.  Still will only do this once or twice a year…

Areas of Improvement: We need to do a better job of managing our time. The game went long and Doug’s message was a little longer than we had planned. As a result, we had to cut the last two worship songs which I HATE doing. Saturday night will be a consistent area of improvement as we get the new service rolling.

Next Week: Wipeout Week 3- Prayer (Saturday PM and Sunday AM)
